After spending six months rebuilding an abandoned and wrecked Ferrari F340, this mechanic finally finished his rebuild before surprising his dad with it.

Many people dream of growing up and giving something back to their parents.

For a lot of people, this would be giving them a car or helping with house payments to say thank you for everything that they have sacrificed.

But this UK mechanic has gone one step further and restored a Ferrari, only for him to hand over the keys to his dad instead of flipping it for profit.

UK mechanic restores abandoned Ferrari F340

Prime condition Ferrari cars are a wonder to behold – Former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone recently sold his collection of Rosso red supercars in a record sale worth $650 million.

But unfortunately, many also go abandoned, doomed to collect rust in the wilderness.

Renowned British mechanic Mat Armstrong refused to let this F340 go to waste, instead vowing to bring it back to life.

This Ferrari F340 was left abandoned for years after being wrecked in an incident.

It hadn’t run or moved since and was believed to be heading for the scrapyard.

After buying the Ferrari from a salvage yard, Armstrong got to work restoring it.

He put a good six months’ work into the project, and all was going well until recently, when he was met with a gearbox malfunction.

In a video he posted to YouTube, he ordered a $360 plastic clasp for the shift stick and used his expertise to dismantle the box for its installation.

The mechanic soon had it fitted.

Finally, replacements to the handbrake caliper pads, fixing an ABS sensor issue, and lowering the suspension meant that this F340 was restored to a drivable state.

Restored Ferrari F340 gifted to mechanic’s dad – on one condition

After getting a new set of wheels and giving the Ferrari a good once over with the wax and polish, the car was then gifted to the YouTuber’s dad.

But there was one condition.

His dad was to finish the restoration on his own.

Armstrong revealed that his dad had helped him build his dream Lamborghini Murciélago and worked on the channel for various projects like a McLaren and a GT3.

Because of his experience and devotion to his projects, he said his dad deserved to put the final pieces together for his own Ferrari.

His dad was obviously overjoyed.

Agreeing to the condition, he took his new Ferrari for a quick spin, speeding off into the distance with a roar.

It’s quite the heartfelt story, just like the story of this son gifting his dad a 1967 Camaro that was identical to the one that he was forced to give up in order to provide for the family decades ago.
