A British dealer is selling what looks like the UK’s cheapest Toyota GR Yaris with a price tag of just $27,577.
The little car has covered only a surprising 8,000 miles and wears the same rally-bred body that made the GR an instant legend.
For fans of performance hatchbacks, the listing sounds almost too good to be true, it’s even in fantastic condition.
But something about this bargain doesn’t quite add up, the Toyota GR Yaris seems to be hiding a secret under the hood.

The UK’s cheapest Toyota GR Yaris?
The GR Yaris exploded onto the scene in 2020 as one of the wildest hot hatch cars ever made.
It came from Toyota’s World Rally Championship program, packing a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive, and a manual gearbox.
Examples of used models have held their value ever since, with most clean cars still selling for more than $31,500.

So, when one appeared for thousands of dollars less in the UK, enthusiasts started paying attention.
The photos showed a clean, glossy car that looked every bit the part of a speedy hot hatch in fabulous condition.
But there were odd details like the fact there was no front intercooler peeking through the grille and no GR-Four badge on the tailgate.
The gear selector also seems to not quite match what you’d expect from a hardcore rally car.

The rally car is hiding a secret
That’s when the secret was revealed.
It turns out that the car isn’t a proper GR Yaris at all, but the Japan-spec GR Yaris RS.
It looks identical on the outside but uses a smaller 1.5-liter engine that kicks out just 118 horsepower, front-wheel drive, and a CVT gearbox.

Toyota built it to meet rally production rules while offering a cheaper, more road-friendly version. It shares the looks, but not the firepower.
At $27,577, it’s a tempting buy if you only care about the styling, but for anyone chasing the real rally experience, this GR Yaris might just leave you wanting more.
