An ultra-rare Ferrari Daytona SP3 Mulotipo prototype has been spotted, with images of the supercar emerging on the social media site Reddit, but it confused users due to its LaFerrari shape.

The photos were posted on the Ferrari SubReddit a few days ago, and showed a car that looked like a LaFerrari, with badging that said Daytona SP3 on the inside.

It caused quite a bit of confusion on the social media platform, but some users were able to confirm that it was indeed a prototype for the SP3 with different clothing.

Maranello prototypes are some of the rarest supercars on the road, so to see one out in the wild is quite a special thing.

The Ferrari Daytona SP3 Mulotipo prototype is based on a LaFerrari

Seeing SP3 MP4 written on the inside of the supercar confused the original poster of the Reddit thread.

As it turned out, however, this really was a Daytona SP3.

However, the exterior design left some to believe it was something else entirely.

The supercar is based on the LaFerrari, and MP stands for Mulotipo Prototype.

The full translation is ‘moving prototype number 4’, indicating this is the fourth moving prototype of that particular model.

The company rarely lets its prototypes be seen in public once the actual production cars are on the road.

This was spotted at a recent event at Silverstone.

And that made it a very rare and special sighting by the poster.

Maranello has particular rules for its prototype cars

Maranello has very strict rules when it comes to the sale of its prototypes.

For starters, it handles all sales directly, as well as the interactions between itself and the potential customers/clients.

The Italian manufacturer likes to maintain as much control as possible throughout the process.

Some of them aren’t even street legal due to their prototype nature.

Anyone buying them would simply be doing so for bragging rights about owning them.

Other prototypes may not even be sold with an engine.

So this particular Ferrari could simply be a shell, although closer inspection suggests it has a powertrain under the hood.

Either way, being able to spot such a rare supercar in the wild is something worth shouting about.
