A US company’s silicon-carbon battery is promising to eliminate EV range anxiety with some incredible range figures.

Range anxiety remains a significant concern for many when it comes to electric vehicles, as drivers worry about running out of charge with nowhere to recharge during a long journey.

But these new batteries may be the answer we have been looking for, eliminating range anxiety worries in one go.

Plus, the ability to recharge an EV in just 10 minutes or so could be another big win for this American company.

How the silicon-carbon batteries produce over 400 miles of range

The company behind them, Group14 Technologies, claims the silicon-carbon batteries can produce over 400 miles of range in electric cars.

Inside the batteries, the new SCC55 material boosts the energy levels in specific cells by up to 30 percent.

That is compared to graphite cells you find in most regular batteries.

The company claims that in tests, the batteries were able to produce over 400 miles of range.

Not only are the range figures looking good, but so are the recharging numbers.

During fast charging tests, the new cells could go from zero to 80 percent in less than 10 minutes.

Most EVs on sale now need at least 30 minutes.

This is a big step for America, not least because China has made massive inroads EV-wise over recent years.

A big jump is needed if America is to catch up to its big rival.

The new silicon-carbon battery is a significant evolution

There is no denying that these batteries are a big deal in North America.

China has begun developing solid-state batteries that could produce enough range for nearly 2,000 miles.

They, too, can recharge in around 10 minutes.

China has jumped ahead of the West in many areas with electric cars.

But the new batteries from Group14 show that America isn’t backing down.

Range anxiety is still one of the biggest reasons people won’t jump to EVs from gasoline-powered cars.

This is even though ranges are now better, and the charging infrastructure is more widespread.

Should these batteries prove successful, it could be a big win for the United States.
