The curiosity of one US man got the better of him after he decided to risk spending $2,000 on a Chinese electric ATV dump truck, without expecting much from such a cheap EV.

Micah Toll from EbikeSchool.com was curious to see what the Chinese dump truck was like, and he is no stranger to cheap EVs, having bought several of them in the past.

Buying it from Alibaba, the price did seem too good to be true, but he was even able to get a few customizations done to the vehicle.

His YouTube video on the dump truck showed him unboxing it and finally getting to see whether or not it was worth the money.

Why this Chinese electric ATV dump truck was a pleasant surprise

First of all, the build quality of the ATV seemed solid, even if he had to source his own battery.

Toll installed two 72-volt batteries, with XT60/XT90 converters to keep the ATV in a modular setup.

With the batteries installed, he took it for a very, and already he was impressed.

It had a lot of torque, although the launches from a stop were jerky, so it may have had slightly too much torque.

The real highlight, though, was the 1.5-meter bed at the back.

This had folding side gates, and as a dump truck, it could of course be tilted vertically.

The Chinese electric ATV dump truck even had an auto-releasing tailgate, specifically for dumping.

Yet the pleasant surprises kept on coming for Toll.

This is why this Chinese dump truck was surprisingly good

The build quality was a big thing that impressed the YouTuber.

For example, the welding was neat and strong, while the wiring was very tidy and not a jumbled mess.

Plus, with its modular design, it would be easy to modify the dump truck if needed.

Toll did replace the original motor with a lower-powered one, giving the dump truck a much smoother ride.

That really was the only big downside to this impressive vehicle.

He also has further plans for the ATV.

They include converting it into a mobile electric power station with a 27kWh battery pack.

That will make it a mobile charger, to recharge an EV or to provide backup power to a home.

So for just $2,000, it looked like this ATV was a real bargain.
