This US man bought a factory reject Tesla at a huge discount because its dealer couldn’t fix it – and his gamble paid off.

YouTuber Samcrac managed to snag this Plaid for a 70 percent discount.

After spending over 51 days at the dealership over seven periods, Tesla were forced to buy under federal law.

From there, it went to an auction where Sam picked it up.

Securing a factory reject Tesla at a huge discount and making it work

The going retail price for this car would usually be $150,000.

But with a 70 percent discount, this would put the price Sam paid at around $45,000.

The primary issue with this car is that the SRS [the airbag light] won’t turn off.

And it’s not for lack of trying on the dealer’s part, as they replaced three separate parts nine times over.

The airbag was replaced four times, the steering column control module three, and a dashboard wiring harness twice.

And the problems don’t end there.

Whilst the tires may look good at first glance, Sam noticed that they were ‘down to the cords’ on the inside.

That’s essentially another way of saying the tires are extremely worn down.

Something like that would usually set you back financially, but Sam managed to get all four replaced for $125.

Other issues came up along the way, like the exterior mirror shaking when music played and the half of the door handles failing.

Ultimately, the issues were addressed by Tesla, not least of which was the airbag problem.

The technician removed the passenger airbag and found a piece of a old harness clip had remained in the airbag connection.

“So the whole issue was a little piece of an old connector,” Sam said.

It’s funny how such a persistent problem was caused by such a tiny part.

Taking a gamble on a car is a risky move

When buying at an auction, you’re often taking a gamble on the car you’ll be bringing home.

For one man, an ‘already rebuilt’ Chevy Corvette Z06 was what he was taking a chance on, whilst for another it was a $11k Tesla Model S.

Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn’t.

But that’s life, right?
