This Tesla Model Y owner decided to really spill the beans when it came to operating costs between gas and electric cars.

Having previously owned a Chevy Silverado and Honda CR-V, the Tesla Model Y owner revealed a world of EV costs that were vastly different from his previous daily drivers.

It’s no secret that gas prices have skyrocketed in recent years and even months, but so has the cost of electricity across many states and even countries.

Of course, maintenance costs do play a part, but the difference may be larger than you’d initially think.

This Tesla Model Y proved to be the gift that kept on giving

The Tesla Model Y is one of the most talked-about electric SUVs on the market, and it’s not hard to see why.

YouTuber John VandeVoort shared the real cost of running the EV compared to gas costs, and the sheer difference was astonishing.

Explaining that he’d owned the car for around two years, he revealed whether an EV was really worth switching over to, full-time.

Charging is, of course, different from filling a car up with gas.

The creator revealed that he paid just $0.13 per kWh and calculated that for just $9.75, he was able to charge his Tesla Model Y battery from empty to full, working out at just $0.42 per mile.

Were his gas costs the same?

Now, you may be wondering how many miles he has actually racked up on his Tesla Model Y, and how much the total ownership has really dented his bank balance.

Over 37,5000 miles, the YouTuber spent $1,575, but factoring in the costs of Superchargers meant that the figure was really closer to $2,000.

You have to admit that it really isn’t bad at all.

Having previously owned gas cars, he compared the Tesla to gas costs and showed the true difference.

The creator said that driving the same amount of miles in his Honda CRV came to a whoppping $4,737, but the biggest shock was yet to come.

He also previously owned a Chevy Silverado, and driving 37,500 miles cost him five times as much as driving the Tesla Model Y, amounting to $7,896.

Maintenance was also much less on the Tesla Model Y, and thanks to installing a solar panel system and using free chargers, the cost was reduced even further.

With a huge surge in drivers switching from gas cars to EVs, this aids the conversation even further, as gas prices will only increase.
