A Utah EV dealer who bought a Tesla Model S Plaid EV for $151,00 has claimed it is the ‘most depreciating car I’ve owned’ in a damning verdict for its current value.
Alex at EV Auto (@evautoalex) posted on Facebook Reels to discuss his purchase and give buyers in 2026 some advice if they wanted to buy an electric car.
But he wasn’t so happy with how the value of his Tesla had turned out, and listening to him, it does come as a shock.
That won’t stop him from driving the Tesla until it can no longer drive.

The most depreciating car Alex has owned
Alex opened his reel with quite the statement and said, “This is the most depreciating car I have ever owned.”
He said the Tesla Model S Plaid, white on white, has every upgrade that you can get on it.
It was also one of the first Plaids that was available in Utah, so he paid ‘top dollar’ for it.

Alex said he paid $151,000 for the car, and it has done a good number of miles over the past few years.
Yet he said that the value of the Tesla has dropped massively, to just $50,000 or perhaps $45,000.
As he said in his reel, “So, over $100,000 in depreciation in not quite five years.”
The Tesla Model S Plaid value was a shock
That is roughly $25,000 a year that the car has depreciated, or around $2,000 a month.
Alex has said, though, that he and his dealership will drive the car until the wheels have fallen off it.
They might as well get the most value for their money that they possibly can!
What Alex also said in his video was that buying a used EV is the way to go right now.
If their value drops that quickly, you will effectively lose an awful lot of money over 2-5 years.
As a used EV dealer, he said he is a bit biased, but his advice does resonate and makes a lot of sense.
Buying an EV is not a bad choice by any means.
But there are clearly ways to be a bit smarter about it.
