This Utah man decided to take his Tesla Cybertruck to CarMax for an appraisal, and he was blown away with a ‘shocker’ of an offer he couldn’t quite believe.
The YouTuber rolled up to a CarMax lot with a snazzy green-wrapped Cybertruck and one simple goal: find out what the instant cash offer would be.
He expected a number that matched the hype, the scarcity, and the custom color, maybe around six figures.
Instead, the printout he walked away with left him laughing in disbelief.

Appraising a Tesla Cybertruck at CarMax
CarMax has a simple mission: you drive in, get a price on the spot, and skip the awkward private sale dance.
He had seen people take exotic cars and EVs in for curiosity appraisals, so he figured a Cybertruck would be the perfect test for CarMax.
There was one problem, the car wasn’t actually his.

He also did not have plates or registration in his name, which CarMax staff told him meant they could not process a normal appraisal.
After a quick back-and-forth, the team agreed to proceed with an appraisal anyway, but with strict limits: they would take photos, inspect the condition, and send the details up the corporate chain to generate a number.
He could stay for the process, but he could not keep filming inside without going through CarMax PR approval, which the staff said could take weeks.
With the truck in their hands for the inspection, he killed time across the street, grabbing food, then came back to see what the market thought his borrowed Cybertruck was worth in a no-drama, instant-offer scenario.

The offer was genuinely shocking
The Cybertruck in question had around 3,000 miles on the clock and wore a forest green wrap.
The YouTuber also noted the current scarcity, claiming fewer than 600 were available, and pointed out the chatter he had seen about CarMax offering around $125,000 for one.
CarMax took longer than expected, partly because the Cybertruck was so new to their system.
Then they came back with the number: $76,000.

He called it madness, especially compared with the resale hype and his belief that it could move fast at far higher prices.
Still, he ended on a more grounded note, reminding viewers that cars depreciate and that scarcity fades when production ramps up, even for something as attention-grabbing as the Tesla Cybertruck.
