Charging EVs at home is a daunting prospect amid rising prices around the globe, but new technology called ‘V2X bi-directional’ could actually lower your home energy bills.
While many people are put off by electric cars because of long charging times on the go, others find the prospect of installing a home charger quite scary.
Mainly, the anxiety around inflated bills is putting people off making the switch, especially in an era where more people are working from home and spending more money on electricity.
However, your fears might soon be completely alleviated, as V2X bi-directional tech promises to make charging EVs at home a money-maker, not a money-burner.

Charging EVs at home could soon make you money
Bills, bills, bills, who wants them? Brown envelopes and IRS phone calls, nobody likes having that overwhelming dread of getting one.
But EVs could soon power your home to help you save money, thanks to a new V2X bi-directional scheme.
Charging EVs at home is one of the most cost-effective processes already.
But only when you take advantage of low-power times, such as charging through the night.
The new V2X bi-directional scheme, however, allows you to use that cheap power throughout the day.
Effectively, this new scheme allows you to charge your car for cheap throughout the night, store the energy, and then emit it back into your home to power the dryer and TV during peak times, without charge.

The scheme is set to begin rolling out in the UK, as Electric Nation, Octopus, and OVO have all committed to using the V2X bi-directional method.
The scheme claims that, combined with other energy-storing methods like solar panels and heat pumps, you might soon be able to power your house for free during the day.
And do all of the charging throughout the low-cost nighttime economy.
Pilot schemes are making home charging more affordable than ever before
This isn’t the only scheme that is being rolled out to make charging EVs at home even more affordable.
Over in the US, specifically in California, another pilot scheme has been pushing for cheaper prices and a change of habits to help save locals a small fortune every year.

The V2X bi-directional technology has been adopted in the US by Ford, too, as a power plant in Cali allowed F-150 Lightning EVs to reap the rewards of charging at home.
With luck, charging fears will soon be a thing of the past, and EV drivers will be able to affordably keep their wheels moving.
