Volvo’s best-selling car is not what it used to be – the so-called ‘brick’ that they stopped making 32 years ago has been surpassed by a different vehicle – the Volvo XC60.

The Volvo 240 was loved by car fans for over 30 years, but now things have changed.

It’s all been overthrown by a new kid on the block.

The XC60 has now taken over the top spot, and it’s pretty obvious as to why.

This modern car has taken over as Volvo’s best-selling car

For years on end, one car was the most loved by car enthusiasts – the 240.

The standard sedan‘s long reign has reached an end, and another car has taken the world by storm.

The vintage car was first produced in 1974 and continued gracing the showroom floor until 1993, with the production line proving to be highly successful with a wide audience.

And thanks to its popularity, it was the fan favorite amongst brand buyers until very recently.

Now, the XC60 SUV has taken the crown as the best Volvo that money can buy, and it doesn’t take much to see why.

The SUV boasts a mean-looking exterior and was first launched way back in 2008, in fact,
‘since its debut in 2008, Volvo Cars’ mid-size SUV has remained a favourite among customers, ‘ stated the company itself.

Now, after more than 10 years on the production line, it’s been given a new, refreshed look.

The 2026 XC60 is a midsize plug-in hybrid SUV with five drive modes, cabin ambience, and even a panoramic roof – meaning it trumps the 240 in every sense.

What makes Volvo cars so good?

The brand reputation is high, and it’s obvious why this is the case.

The company’s cars are often praised for being safe and reliable, and the president of the car manufacturer once even went to extreme lengths to prove the strength of one of its trucks.

He was positioned on a 15-ton truck high up in the air, and it was all down to one, strong, tiny hook.

The car manufacturer has lots of famous fans too, such as Joaquin Phoenix and even Microsoft mogul Bill Gates – which raises the question – could Volvo really be the best car that money can buy?
