This is where Elon Musk's Roadster is now 7 years after being fired into space

Elon Musk’s Roadster has been traveling in space, with its unique passenger, Starman, on board, for a few years now.

The car is now millions of miles away from Earth.

In fact, it is closer to the Sun than it is to our planet.

But there’s also some news that might make Elon Musk a bit sad.

Here’s where Elon Musk’s Roadster is now

Believe it or not, there’s actually a website whose sole job is to track where Elon Musk’s Roadster is at any given moment.

At the time of writing, Roadster is about 190 million miles away from Earth, but it’s heading back toward Earth at a speed of around 19,300mph.

By contrast, the car is ‘only’ 110 million miles away from the Sun.

Bad news for Musk, though.

His Tesla is actually far away – 243 million miles to be exact – from his favorite planet, Mars.

It’s heading that way, though.

The car is basically orbiting around the Sun, which means that, in a few years, it’ll ‘fly’ past Mars.

The story behind this Tesla

On 6 February 2018, a Tesla Roadster with Starman, a mannequin dressed as an astronaut, at the wheel was sent into orbit aboard the Falcon Heavy rocket.

In the seven years since his mission began, Starman has traveled an incredibly long way.

The electric convertible has covered an absurd amount of miles so far, and it is currently heading in the direction of Mars, before hading back to Earth, something that should happen about 20-odd years from now.

At one point, it was theorized that Starman was coming back to Earth, but that seems unlikely.

The good news is that the chances of Roadster actually hitting Earth on its way back are close to zero.
