Seven-time F1 world champion and Ferrari driver Sir Lewis Hamilton has just revealed that he has sold his entire car collection.
Tens of cars, including some rare Ferrari and Mercedes models – all gone.
We’re going to assume Hamilton is at least driving his company car on a daily basis, or maybe he isn’t.
But that doesn’t matter, because what matters is the reason why he sold his car collection.

The reason why Hamilton sold his cars
Speaking at the press conference ahead of the Azerbaijan GP, as reported by ESPN, Sir Lewis Hamilton said he doesn’t ‘own any cars’ anymore.
He’s sold them all and his entire car collection – worth at least $13 million – it’s now gone.
And he’s apparently done it for two reasons.

First, for environmental reasons, and second, because he wants to use the money to fund his new passion, art.
“If I were going to get a car, it would be the Ferrari F40. But that’s a nice piece of art,” he added.
Coincidentally, the F40 is the protagonist of the very first photograph that Hamilton shared to social media as a Ferrari driver.
That picture broke the internet, by the way, because it is now the most liked F1 Instagram post ever.

Hamilton spent most of his career with Mercedes.
That’s because even when he was racing for McLaren, where he spent around 15 years, the British racing team had close ties to Mercedes.
Those ties were severed for the first time a few decades and seven world titles later when he joined Ferrari for this season.
On account of his relationship with McLaren and Mercedes, Hamilton was given early access to a long list of limited-edition models that Mercedes made, some of which he ended up buying, including the AMG One that Nico Rosberg also owns.

Interestingly, the seven-time F1 world champion was a Ferrari collector before he joined Ferrari as a driver.
Among others, he used to own a Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta.
Now, he owns nothing.
