It took one South Korean woman 950 attempts and more than $14,000 to pass her driving test.
Cha Sa-Soon set a Guinness World Record at the age of 68.
Back in 2009, she passed her test and set a new standard for determination and ambition.
In the years since, she remains a legend and an inspiration for those white-knuckling their way through their driving test.

950 attempts and $14,000 later…this South Korean woman became a licensed driver
Most people would pass their driving tests in their teen years, but things hadn’t panned out that way for Sa-soon.
Because she’d been so busy raising her four children, she only got around to learning to drive when she was in her 60s.
Some people fancy themselves as being good behind the wheel, but struggling with the written element of their test, while it’s the exact opposite for other learners.

But for Sa-Soon, both elements were tricky.
She first attempted her theory test in April 2005, but didn’t pass on her first attempt.
Now brace yourself for this – she only passed after doing the equivalent of one exam every day for five days a week over the course of three years.
She’ll have known that exam back to front and upside down by the time she passed.
But there was still the practical element of the exam left to conquer, and that took an additional 100 attempts to get right.

For many people, giving up would have seemed like the easier option here.
But Sa-Soon was driven on, because she needed a car to support her vegetable business and to take her grandchildren to the zoo.
“We hadn’t had the guts to tell her to quit because she kept showing up,” Sa-Soon’s driving instructor told The New York Times.
As a reward for her efforts, Hyundai gifted her a new car worth around $15,000.

It can be nerve-wracking to take on a driving test
Whether undertaken in an electric car or in a Lamborghini Urus Performante, driving tests aren’t easy.
And that’s the point – we couldn’t just have any old driver going around the roads, could we?
Of course, the degree of difficulty also varies by country, with some requiring as many as 85 hours of practice before a test can be attempted.
But no matter where you’re taking it or what car you’re doing it in, you’re likely to be nervous, even if just a little.
If that’s the case, here’s some advice that an instructor gave out to learners taking on their practical test.
And remember – be more Cha Sa-Soon.
