The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype has taken the Nürburgring by storm, smashing lap records and proving its place among the world’s fastest vehicles.

In an astonishing display of speed and engineering, the electric sedan clocked a lap time of six minutes and 22.091 seconds.

This feat not only sets a new record for production electric vehicles but also places the SU7 Ultra prototype in the top three fastest times ever recorded on the legendary track.

Even more impressive, it beat out high-performance machines from established automakers like Mercedes-AMG and Porsche.

The SU7 Ultra demolished its previous Nürburgring record

The record-setting run was achieved with a stripped-down prototype of the SU7 Ultra, showcasing the vehicle’s raw capabilities.

Xiaomi trimmed 24 seconds off its previous best Nürburgring lap time, a leap that underscores just how serious the company is about performance.

According to Nürburgring’s official timing data, the SU7 Ultra now ranks third in the world in the prototypes/pre-production vehicles.

The only two cars that edged out the SU7 Ultra are the Porsche 919 Evo and the VW ID.R, which are both purpose-built track monsters, not road-legal production cars.

This means the SU7 Ultra’s performance marks the fastest lap ever for a production-based EV on the Nürburgring lap.

Even in unofficial races, the SU7 Ultra has impressed many people when it faced up against a Tesla Model S Plaid.

Xiaomi did what Apple couldn’t

Launched earlier this year, the Xiaomi SU7 made headlines as the tech giant’s first foray into electric vehicles.

The hype was so big that the factory in China became a hotspot for auto enthusiasts, with people fighting for entry and tour tickets.

The Ultra variant features dual motors delivering up to 1,000 horsepower, carbon ceramic brakes, an active aerodynamic package, and a high-voltage battery system co-developed with CATL.

It was certainly powerful enough to send streamer IShowSpeed into a frenzy, after he got the opportunity to ride in the newly released EV.

While Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed whether this Nürburgring-tuned version will see public release in its current form, the prototype’s performance clearly demonstrates the company’s engineering potential and racing ambition.

Its rivals on the track weren’t exactly sluggish either; Porsche’s Taycan Turbo GT and Mercedes-AMG’s GT Black Series have also posted impressive times around the Nürburgring.

However, Xiaomi’s success signals a seismic shift: traditional automakers are now being seriously challenged by tech-first companies in the high-performance EV space.

In fact, even Ford’s CEO was impressed with his Xiaomi SU7, after ordering it directly from China and driving it for six months.

Xiaomi went from making smartphones and other gadgets to creating its own EV, something that even Apple couldn’t do.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has stated that the SU7 line is a ‘dream car’ project, aimed at making Xiaomi a top global EV brand within 15 to 20 years.

Given that Xiaomi’s latest YU7 SUV was so popular that it received over 200,000 orders in three minutes, that dream seems less far-fetched than ever.
