In a bid to rebuild this supercar into the ‘fastest McLaren P1 in the world’, this YouTuber has found the golden $150,000 McLaren P1 battery that even the designers themselves said would be ‘impossible’ to find.

Only 375 units of the McLaren P1 were ever made, and getting your hands on parts of these $2 million supercars is quite tricky.

Especially when you’re hunting for the beating heart of the car, such as the battery.

However, in his ongoing hunt to create a one-off McLaren P1 Evo from a flooded model, YouTuber Freddy ‘Tavarish’ Hernandez has somehow wrangled this impossible-to-source part.

Flooded McLaren P1 is getting a masterful revival

You may or may not have heard of the flooded McLaren P1 that was washed up in a hurricane in 2022. The $2 million hypercar was pictured submerged hood-to-wheel.

But in a bid to bring it back to life, one creator has been on a wild ride.

Claiming that he is the ‘only person dumb enough to buy it’, YouTube creator Tavarish is on the path to restoring it – and then some.

Collaborating with the designer of the supercar himself, Frank Stephenson, the creator has pledged to mod it into the ‘fastest McLaren P1’ ever, dubbing the project the ‘P1 Evo’.

But in a bid to make it the fastest P1 out there, they needed to source one key part: an ‘impossible’ hybrid battery.

During a new video on his second channel, though, he revealed that he’d found it. Although it cost him an arm and a leg.

Tavarish is on track to make the P1 the fastest ever with this ‘impossible’ battery

The McLaren P1’s lithium-ion battery modules are the reason that the car can zip from 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds and continue up to 217mph.

However, it isn’t cheap, should they be available, as McLaren itself doesn’t sell the unit.

For the modest price of just $150,000, though, the YouTuber managed to get his hands on it.

This was the biggest hurdle in getting the car back up and running, given that the previous battery was completely destroyed in the flood.

And it will be key for the P1 designer to improve his original model and make this project even more powerful.

Tavarish has been working on the car for two years now, but with the help of Frank Stephenson, the McLaren P1 project has clicked into fifth gear and is picking up a lot of momentum heading into 2026.
