A YouTuber put a GoPro camera inside a car tire and managed to capture some pretty interesting footage.

It’s fair to say most of us have likely given little thought to what is going on inside our tires.

But thankfully there are more curious minds than ours that ponder that very thought.

It required a bit of work to get the GoPro into the tire

The man behind the YouTube channel Warped Perception has one such curious mind; he explains that he originally set up his account to show a new and different side to everyday objects and items – such as tires.

He grabbed his trusty GoPro and set about placing it inside his tire, which was a bit of a project in itself and involved jacking his car up, removing his tire of choice, mounting the camera onto the metal rim before replacing the tire and putting it back on his car.

At this point, we get our first glimpse into the tire as he records himself putting it back on and then filling the tire with air before he takes to the streets of Chicago.

He sets off pretty slowly driving down a bumpy ally and the camera captures each and every response the tire makes to those uneven surfaces.

The rubber looks oddly fluid as it moves down the street and the whole thing is slightly hypnotic.

He next tests how it looks when reversing and notes that it looks slightly like the tire is ‘dancing’; before finally recording some turns that appear to put the camera through its paces.

People found the footage oddly captivating

“Well that went really well, a lot better than I expected,” he said. “I think that was a really cool look inside the tire. That was definitely a different perspective.”

And people were quick to agree, admitting that the clip made them feel differently about their humble car tires after watching the clip.

“This really makes me appreciate the materials and structural engineering of modern tires,”  said one.

“Never envisioned how much flex the tire experiences during normal driving,” added another.

Oh and in case you’re wondering about the potential damage caused by shoving a camera into a car tire – let’s face it, they can be pretty expensive – fear not as the YouTuber explained that the tires were ‘shot’ and due a change anyway.
