This YouTuber wanted to find out if a car could still function with damaged or missing wheel spokes, and the results were fascinating.
This was a three-part experiment.
He removed the spokes gradually – in three phases – until he got the result he wanted.
And the result was still impressive.
Cars are tougher than we think
It would probably be fair to say that the sturdiness of cars and all of their components is generally underestimated.
Starting with tires.
Tires are much, much, much, much tougher than we think.
You know the thing we see in movies with people quickly and easily puncturing the baddie’s tires with a knife or something?
It really doesn’t work like that.
There are steel plies inside the tire that are difficult to cut through by hand.

I once extracted a sharp piece of metal – around the same length as a toe – that had been in the tire of my car for who knows how long.
And the tire was fine.
Every element of the car is stress-tested to hell and back, and that’s because safety regulations may be a little bit annoying and expensive to comply with, but they’re useful.
So, as long as you maintain your car properly, it’s very close to indestructible.
How many miles can you drive without a spoke in your wheel? The answer is… forever
YouTuber Garage 54 did an interesting experiment.
He removed a spoke from the wheel to see how long that would last.
The answer was ‘forever,’ because the wheel didn’t break.
So he then went the extra mile by removing more spokes.

In the end, they had to cut the wheels down to just two thin, opposing spokes.
And then, finally, the wheel collapsed.
Don’t try this at home, though.
