The interior of this 1980s Chrysler New Yorker is decked out in fake wood and looks like the sort of thing you’d see in Patrick Bateman’s office.

Chrysler launched the New Yorker in 1940, and it was a flagship model for the marque.

The New Yorker remained in production until 1996 and was the longest-running American car nameplate.

During that run, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers were built – amongst them, this 1985 example that has one of the most retro interiors we’ve ever seen.

The 1980s Chrysler New Yorker interior

With a history dating back as far as it does, there are some very cool, vintage Chrysler New Yorkers out there, like this 1958 model that was rescued from a ditch, or this super rare 1963 Chrysler New Yorker limousine that was abandoned for decades.

Another fine retro example is this 1980s Chrysler New Yorker that was fitted with one of the most unusual interiors we’ve seen.

The 1985 New Yorker is finished in silver with a matching rear Landau vinyl hardtop and chrome trim.

It’s also got quad headlights, some hood vents, and fender louvers.

However, it’s the inside of the car that is the real talking point.

The cabin has a couple of bucket seats at the front and a bench at the back, all of which are trimmed in dark gray leather that looks like the recliner in your grandma’s house.

The dashboard has woodgrain veneer accents, which are also picked up in the door panels and the center stack, leaving the inside looking a bit like an investment banker’s desk.

The 1985 New Yorker was also given rear seat headrests, and an overhead storage console as standard.

Despite its age, the New Yorker comes with a handful of modern conveniences, including air conditioning, power windows, electronic voice alert, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and ‘opera-style’ reading lamps.

There’s even an onboard computer, but given that the car is 40 years old we can assume it’s not exactly the most high-tech system out there.

What was under the hood?

The 1985 Chrysler New Yorker was powered by a 2.2-liter inline-four engine with a Garrett T3 turbocharger and a Bosch K-Jetronic electronic fuel injection that could produce up 146 horsepower.

Although it’s 40 years old, the New Yorker has just 51,000 miles on the clock and was recently snapped up by a new owner for a bargain-basement price of $6,100.
