This incredible and super rare 1985 Mercury Capri ASC McLaren convertible has just 20,000 miles on the clock.
The Capri, which later became known as the Mercury Capri, was launched in 1970.
From 1984 to 1986, the American Sunroof Company (ASC) teamed up with McLaren’s American division to transform the Capri into something extra special.
And one of them recently went up for sale in the United States.

The 1985 Mercury Capri ASC McLaren convertible is a real head turner
The Mercury Capri was produced for three generations, each quite distinctive from the last.
It was first introduced as a sports car in 1970, before becoming a pony car from 1979 to 1986, and from 1991 to 1993, it was a roadster.

But during the mid-1980s, a special variant was available known as the Mercury Capri ASC McLaren.
The Mercury Capri ASC McLaren has some upgrades to give the 5,0 liter V8 powertrain a bit of a boost.
The cars also had to undergo some serious redesign, with the back seats of the Mercury Capri being removed to make way for the convertible top.
This example was finished in white and has held onto its original ASC McLaren exterior graphics.
The seller said the car has just 20,627 miles on the clock and that it ‘starts and runs well’.
The shock towers and underneath are ‘rust-free’, according to the seller, and ‘under the hood is clean and complete’.
Inside, 1985 Mercury Capri ASC McLaren convertible is in great condition with immaculate seats and a clean, fresh dashboard with wooden accents.

The seller says the car is serial number 187 of 457 made in 1985, making the car rare, but rarer still is to find one in such neat shape.
However, after listing the Mercury Capri ASC McLaren for sale on eBay the car failed to sell, meaning it’s probably still on the hunt for a new owner.
ASC McLaren worked with several carmakers
Although McLaren working alongside ASC may seem an unusual pairing, it was actually a lengthy and successful partnership.
ASC McLaren worked with several carmakers over the years, including Buick and Ford.
In the late 1980s, it also worked with Pontiac to enhance the Grand Prix and created the Pontiac Grand Prix ASC/McLaren Edition.
