Someone in California has listed a 1990 Ferrari F40 on Craigslist, but be warned – it doesn’t come cheap.

The stunning Ferrari F40 went into production in 1987, with a price tag of $400,000.

Ferrari produced 1,311 units, of which 213 were destined to be sent over to the US.

Now, one of the iconic and ultra-rare supercars has popped up for sale on Craigslist.

Why is a near-mint condition Ferrari F40 on Craigslist?

Craiglist can be a great place to pick up a weird and wonderful vehicle, like this Lamborghini Diablo replica that looked a lot like the real deal, or this rare double-decker Greyhound bus that’s thought to be one of the last survivors of its kind.

Now, someone has taken that to new heights by listing a Ferrari F40 on Craigslist.

Although the car is more than 35 years old, it looks to be in great condition.

It has just 7,430 miles on the clock and has no history of damage.

According to the listing, the car has spent most of its recent years in temperature-controlled storage in Southern California.

Images shared on the listing show that the Ferrari F40 looks as fresh as it did when it rolled off the production line, with flawless scarlet paintwork and not a dent or ding in sight. Even the tires look brand-new.

So, the big question is, why is a 1990 Ferrari F40 on Craigslist?

Well, the car is being sold as part of the ‘significant assets valued between $100 million and $500 million’ that are being sold off due to bankruptcy.

“I am the court appointed broker of record to sell this vehicle for the United States Federal Court on August 12, 2025, at 1pm,” the listing explains.

The car is set to go under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s, where it already has attracted a top bid of  $2,555,000.

However, the Craigslist post explains that if you’re willing to pay a cool $5 million, the upcoming auction will be cancelled and the Ferrari F40 will be all yours.

An F40 once sold for a record-breaking amount

The Ferrari F40 remains one of the most iconic performance cars of its era.

At the time, it was Ferrari’s fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car.

It was unveiled with a suggested retail price of $400,000, which would be around $1,100,000 today.

In 1990, a Ferrari F40 that belonged to F1 racing icon Nigel Mansell sold for £1 million, setting a new record.

The record-breaking car recently underwent an incredibly satisfying detailing.
