It looks like the 2027 Dodge Charger Hellcat is bringing back the V8, and the news has muscle car purists jumping for joy.

Stellantis discontinued the V8 Dodge Charger back in 2023.

But now it looks like those missing two cylinders are coming back.

And that’s not the only exciting thing Dodge might be bringing back.

Why the return of the V8-powered Dodge Charger is such a big deal

The Dodge Charger is easily one of the most iconic muscle cars of all time.

But the legendary nameplate has hit a couple of rough patches in recent years.

After the V8 powerplant was discontinued in 2023, Stellantis attempted to replace it with the all-electric Charger Daytona EV.

It brought decent power but some argued it lacked the soul of the nameplate.

The company then introduced the inline-six-powered Charger sixpack.

A step in the right direction, but those two missing cylinders continued to turn off purists.

But that might all be about to change.

According to reports, Stellantis has reversed its decision to discontinue the Hemi V8.

No official confirmation has been given, but the winds are blowing in that direction.

It might seem a bit obvious to point out why this actually matters.

But the heritage and the legacy is more than worth talking about.

The V8 powerplant has always been central to the identity of the Dodge Charger.

With the exception of the fifth generation, a V8 has always served as the car’s beating heart.

Could the Hellcat trim be revived?

A Hemi V8 returning to the Dodge Charger would be an extremely welcome sight.

So, which trims could receive the iconic V8 options?

Historically, the 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter V8s used to be fitted in the R/T and Scat Pack options.

But these two options both occupy six-cylinder powerplants.

This makes it almost certain that the legendary Hellcat trim could be revived.

It will likely serve as the platform for cars fitted with the 6.2-liter supercharged V8.

At the time of writing, there is no official timeline for any of this.

It should be noted, though, that Hemi production is already back in full swing at the Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan.

The earliest timeline, as suggested by Car and Driver, could be late 2026 or early 2027.

We certainly have our fingers crossed that a V8-powered Dodge Charger Hellcat is on the way.
