A UK-based company working in Germany has discovered a massive 43,000,000-ton lithium deposit, which promises to reshape the EV battery future in Europe and put an end to its reliance on China.
With the heavy reliance on EV battery technology, sourcing materials has become paramount for the industry.
Lithium leads the way in this regard, powering almost every electric car in the world.
Having previously outsourced most of the EV battery supply to China, Europe, and more specifically, Germany, is now leading the charge to make its own batteries after stumbling across a gargantuan 43,000,000-ton lithium deposit.

Germany could soon be EV battery leaders after recent lithium deposit find
With EVs now using their tightly condensed lithium-powered cells to hit ranges of over 600 miles in one charge, car manufacturers in Germany, such as Audi, Mercedes, and BMW, have all been leaning on Chinese counterparts for their power banks.
But that could now change, as Neptune Energy has found a whopping lithium deposit sitting beneath Saxony.
In an area previously used for gas excavation, the company found one of the biggest deposits on the globe.
To put this into perspective, a similarly-sized ‘white gold’ mine found in Nevada’s McDermitt Caldera supervolcano is estimated to be worth over $1 trillion, and could power over 800,000 EVs.

The biggest lithium ore depository was recently discovered in China, with 540,000,000 tonnes of the reliable material being found, which has put the country far ahead of anyone else in the development of EV batteries.
“This enables us to contribute significantly to the German and European supply market for the critical raw material lithium,” Neptune Energy CEO Andreas Scheck said.
Ending Chinese reliance
So far, many of the German manufacturers have leaned heavily on the Chinese EV battery industry, specifically CATL.
The company, which recently shifted attention to more compact sodium batteries, has been supplying batteries to Mercedes, BMW Group, and Volkswagen Group for years.
Now, though, your favorite fleet from Germany could become the proud homegrown vehicles that they always have been.

German engineering has been a pillar of the car industry, and with this lithium available, it will give the country a chance to live up to its reputation and become a powerhouse in EVs again.
