Forty-four Fisker Ocean EVs, which were once touted as a Tesla rival, were left abandoned across the UK but have since been collected up and will finally be sold.

Fisker released the Ocean in 2023, with the EV intended to be the first of three models in a lineup of mass-market all-electric vehicles.

However, things didn’t quite work out like that.

In 2024, just months after the EV was released, the company declared itself bankrupt, which led to dozens of its cars being unsold and abandoned.

The Fisker Ocean was tipped to be a Tesla rival

When it was launched, the Fisker Ocean was tipped to be a Tesla rival, after it drew comparisons to the Model Y

But its release was marred by negative reviews thanks to its unfinished software, and months later, the company went bankrupt.

This meant that you could get your hands on a Fisker Ocean for pretty cheap, in fact, one man in the US got one for just $10,000 and fixed it for $100

But over in the UK, 44 Fisker Ocean EVs ended up dumped and abandoned as dealerships were no longer able to stock or sell them.

In Nottingham, one car dealership simply dumped eight of the cars, worth around $368,000, on the roadside where they sat for months.

After spending months parked, liquidators stepped in and no fewer than 44 Fisker Ocean EVs were rounded up by John Pye Auctions with instructions for them to be sold.

“We’ve sold a few already from the 44, but we will be drip feeding them through the auctions in the coming months,” a spokesperson from John Pye Auctions told This Is Money in April.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the cars will be sold for a fraction of what they originally cost.

Those that had already been sold as of April went for between $13,416 and $20,125 – a whole lot less than the original asking price, which sat between $49,507 and $77,683 depending on the spec.

Where did it all go wrong for the Fisker Ocean?

First unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2022, the Fisker Ocean was considered to be a Tesla rival and had more than 65,000 reservations within a year.

However, it was far from smooth sailing

After deliveries began in June 2023, there were more than 100 loss-of-power incidents as well as other technical problems, which resulted in three investigations by the  National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and several recalls.

Amid ongoing concerns about the company’s finances and the multiple recalls, more than 40,000 reservations had been canceled.

And in June 2024, the company filed for bankruptcy.
