If you find that super-fast 5G just isn’t fast enough, then you might be pleased to know that Qualcomm says 6G will be arriving in 2028.
The 5G cellular network arrived in 2019 as a successor to 4G.
However, time marches on, and now tech companies are gearing up for the introduction of 6G.
As you might expect, 6G will be bringing the fastest internet speeds, and it’s set to arrive in just three years’ time.

6G will be arriving in 2028, what should we expect?
It was previously reported that 6G networks would be developed and released by the early part of the 2030s.
However, speaking at the Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said 6G will be arriving in 2028.

“We have been very busy working on the next generation of connectivity…which is 6G. Designed to be the connection between the cloud and Edge devices,” Amon said, according to Toms Guide.
To begin with, the tech will be introduced to prototype devices, known as pre-commercial devices, before it’s rolled out to the mass market.
To add a bit of context to how long that could take, 5G pre-commercial devices began popping up in 2016, before it was properly introduced in 2019.
Amon said that alongside ‘increasing the speeds, increasing broadband, [and] increasing the amount of data’, 6G will be a ‘network of intelligence’ that is able to ‘perceive and process sensor data’.
“We’re going to have completely new use cases for this network of intelligence — connecting the edge and the cloud,” he added.
He explained that the new network will play an important role when it comes to the future of AI.
In terms of speed, 5G operates on a gigahertz spectrum, while 6G will reportedly use a terahertz spectrum, meaning users will see a big difference when it comes to speed and bandwidth.
Ever wondered what the ‘G’ in 5G stands for?
As 6G will be arriving in 2028, tech giants will be readying themselves for the network.

But have you ever wondered what the G actually stands for?
The G in 3G, 4G, and 5G simply means ‘generation’ – as in, fifth-generation, fourth-generation, or third-generation.
Naturally, this means that after the upcoming 6G, or sixth generation network, we should expect a 7G, and so on.
