Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is doing everything in its power to avoid going fully electric.
Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said “after hybridization, we will wait to see whether it will be possible to offer vehicles with an internal combustion engine beyond 2030”.
“One possibility would be to keep combustion engine vehicles alive via synthetic fuels,” he told German newspaper Welt Am Sonntag.
Many car brands want to push the development and research of synthetic fuels as a way to keep the internal combustion engine (ICE) alive – Porsche is a good example of this and is one of the movement’s main drivers.
Assuming Lamborghini does actually continue making ICE cars into the 2030s, it would put them in a bit of an awkward position with other carmakers who are being told they must instead go all-electric.
One of the main examples of this is Dodge which will launch its first electric muscle car by 2024.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the next ten years, but we all hope to still see the great-sounding Lamborghini live on.
