In a fiery interview on YouTube, Elon Musk revealed some pretty juicy details about the upcoming Tesla Roadster.

It’s like a car – Musk says – but not really a car at all.

The only thing that Musk loves more than X – and posting on X – is giving a fiery interview online.

A few months ago, speaking with the New York Times, Musk predicted the Model Y would be the world’s best-selling car in 2023.

Now, in another combative interview, this time with ex-CNN political commentator Don Lemon, Musk talked about the long-awaited Tesla Roadster.

And boy oh boy, did he have something to say about it.

The first thing Musk said, in the part of the conversation about Tesla, was that it would be difficult to outshine the Cybertruck when it comes to a new product launch.

“I don’t want to give away [too much, but] the Roadster will be a collaboration between SpaceX and Tesla, and you can expect some ‘rockety stuff’ there,” Musk revealed.

At that point, Lemon asked whether he meant to say the Roadster might become a flying car, to which Musk simply replied ‘maybe’, before bursting out laughing.

Obviously, the Musketeer likes a joke here and there, so read into that what you will.

Also, we can’t be exactly sure what ‘rockety stuff’ is, but we’re all ears.

Then he turned serious again and explained what he really has in mind for the project.

“It’s going to have some rocket technology in it. [We will] create something that’s not really a car,” Musk said.

“It will do 0-60 in under 1 second, and [will] not exactly [have a steering wheel]. It has a drive-by-wire yoke, the way modern jets are controlled.”

First unveiled in 2017, the Roadster is the successor to the original first-gen Roadster, which is the first Tesla-branded car ever launched.

The one that Musk sent into space, to be clear.

The original Roadster was essentially a re-bodied, battery-powered Lotus Elise.

Meanwhile, the new Roadster will be built from scratch by Tesla and will feature a glass roof instead of a canvas one.

Musk says it should be here by 2025.

Then again, the Cybertruck was eventually launched in November 2023 after being announced four years prior, so the actual date may be subject to change with the Tesla Roadster as well.

To be fair, there was a little virus that got in the way during those years if we remember correctly.

So, ultimately we’ll have to wait and see, but that’s the fun part, right?
