A mysterious and rare 1971 Pontiac GTO muscle car has emerged on eBay, but there is a catch to this car.
This 1971 GTO has emerged on the auction site, located in Loganville, Georgia, United States. It looks to be in excellent condition, and it’s already known to be rare as a convertible.
But there is an element of mystery to it, and it makes it difficult to work out if this Pontiac is actually even rarer than it would first appear.
If someone works it out, there is a chance this GTO could go for some serious money.

In 1971, Pontiac produced 10,532 GTOs, with 9,497 of those being the hardtop version.
The remaining 661 units were convertibles, making them an exceptionally rare car for the model year.
With this eBay-listed Pontiac GTO being a 1971 convertible, that already makes it one of 661, and quite a rare specimen.
However, the listing provides very little when it comes to other information on the car.

It isn’t clear if this is an all-original, unrestored 1971 GTO, which would help with its rarity.
The listing also fails to provide much technical data on the car concerning horsepower figures.
According to eBay, the GTO is equipped with a 455ci V8 engine under the hood, which would yield 250hp.
This is down from the 325hp of the previous generation of the 400ci engine, due to the 1970s oil crisis.
The 455ci engine was the top one available in 1971, and that adds to this car’s potential desirability.
Inside, the car is immaculate, and there is little in the way of wear and tear on things such as the seats.
Plus, it has just 35,000 miles showing on the odometer.
If that is true, this AGTO is almost brand new and would indicate it is likely an all-original muscle car.

That could extend to the paintwork, with the gloss black looking immaculate in the photos provided.
Despite the lack of information, that hasn’t stopped the car from gaining a lot of traction on the auction site.
At the time of writing, bidding stood at $25,000 for the muscle car.
It will be fascinating to see just how much the muscle car sells for in a few day’s time.
