Winter has barely begun, yet windscreens everywhere are turning into iced-over glass slabs before sunrise.
But the UK’s AA says there’s one easy way to dodge the whole early-morning scraping session, and most drivers don’t even think about it.
It doesn’t involve special sprays, weird hacks, or anything you’d pick up in the seasonal aisle.
This trick simply comes down to where you leave your car when the temperature drops.

The parking move the AA says actually works
Earlier this winter, the UK’s AA reminded drivers that preventing frost is way easier than trying to fix a frozen windscreen in a panic.
And it turns out their advice to prevent it is almost too simple: if you’ve got a garage, use it.
A garage keeps your car out of the cold air, away from moisture, and stops the outside of the car from turning into a giant ice cube.
But if you don’t have a garage – or it’s full of bikes, boxes, and other random stuff – the backup plan is easy.

Park as close to your house as you can.
Homes give off a tiny bit of heat, and that warmth can be the difference between a clear windscreen and a solid sheet of frost.
And if you want to level it up even more, there’s one extra trick drivers swear by.
Park so your windscreen faces east.
The sun hits it first thing in the morning, and you get a natural, zero-effort defrosting session.
Why frost forms and how to cheat it
Frost forms when moisture in the air lands on a surface that’s cold enough to freeze.
Your car, sitting out in the open, is basically frost bait.
But put it in a garage, and that moisture can’t get to it.
Or park it next to a warm-ish house wall, and the car stays a little warmer than the freezing point – just enough to stop the ice forming.

Throw in a windscreen cover, and you’ve basically built a frost-proof forcefield.
In the end, the trick isn’t scraping faster; it’s parking smarter.
Nail your parking spot at night, and your ice scraper can stay retired until spring.
