When this guy got his hands on a fake Porsche 911 that had been abandoned, he figured it probably would be an inferior product.
After all, imitation cars are rarely as good as the originals, despite often looking like the genuine article at first glance.
But how bad could it possibly be?
YouTuber Hudson Auto Films was about to find out for himself.
How much buyer’s remorse was this YouTuber going to have with this fake Porsche 911?
This was the Covin 911 – designed to look like a classic Porsche 930 Turbo, the turbocharged version of a Porsche 911.
A panel-for-panel replica, the Covin is built around a VW Beetle tub, with genuine Porsche items being used for the glass, lights, trim, and seats.
Having sat stationary for years, it came to Hudson Auto Films in a non-running state.

Charlie, the channel’s host, had one goal in mind – to get the single-port Beetle engine at the heart of this car running again.
He’d taken on his fair share of projects in the past, from abandoned 80s supercars to a Nova Kit car.
As you might expect from a car that has sat idling for so long, it’s not in great shape.
Held together in places with wooden screws and with a dilapidated interior, there was a lot of work that needed to be done.

Initially, the starter motor would only produce a single click.
But it eventually turned over after tracing the wires and cleaning up rusty earthing points.
Earthing points are designated connection points that link the wires to the ground.
Once all of that was done, the engine turned over.
Given that the original mechanical pump was ‘toast’, Charlie opted to bypass it by using a cheap electric pump and a temporary fuel line.

However, problems still persisted as the engine had some issues running.
This was due to the distributor not being fully sealed.
Tapping the carburetor float with a claw hammer seemed to set things right, as the engine settled into a smooth idle.
Now it was time to take this Covin for a spin.
How did the Covin 911 handle out on the road?
Charlie decided to test the car’s roadworthiness by driving it around the land around his workshop.
With a successful maiden voyage under his belt, Charlie decided to ‘push his luck’ by taking it up to 30mph.
However, disaster struck – one of the headlights fell out and smashed onto the ground.

“Possibly the most expensive part of the car…” Charlie lamented.
“All of the things that could break…all the non-Porsche stuff.
“Until moments ago, this was almost the perfect car.”
As the video drew to a close, he put out an appeal to his viewers for any 930 headlights.
Here’s hoping someone can donate one to him.
“The car has exceeded my expectations. The construction is great, and I think with some TLC, it will be an awesome classic to own,” Charlie told Supercar Blondie.
“I’ve ordered lots of parts, including an RWB wing and some rare Japanese bumpers, that the Midnight Club 911 drivers ran.”
It sounds like the finished article is going to be awesome.
