As the harmonious Doppler roars of engines symphonize with Hans Zimmer’s orchestra in the F1 movie premiering this month, one of the actors says his time in a racecar has made normal driving ‘boring’.
The F1 movie will see Brad Pitt play a NYC cab driver and ‘professional gambler’ who partners with a hotshot rookie, portrayed by Damson Idris, to lead a lackluster F1 team back to podium contenders.
Pitt and Idris spent months behind the wheels of actual F1 cars alongside racers Sir Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
But now filming is all wrapped up, Damson Idris has taken to the red carpet and claimed that normal road driving is ‘too boring’.
Damson Idris finds driving ‘boring’ after F1 movie blood rush
There are few things in life more exhilarating than seeing the electric speeds of F1 cars, and being behind the wheel of one is a phenomenon hard to describe.
To train for the F1 movie, Damson Idris was placed in a series of racing cars, ranging from F3000 at PalmerSport to F4, F3, F2, and finally the formidable F1 cars, notably racing one at Silverstone.
The actors both received tips from co-producer Sir Lewis Hamilton, who would tease the pair for being ‘too slow’ during spin-outs and crashes.
But Hamilton also admitted that the actors had mastered the cars by the end of training, saying that they were ‘terrific’.
“They’re just natural, natural athletes,” he said.
The bulk of the movie was cut in modified F2 cars, which surged over 180MPH with the cameras rolling, and Idris has clearly got the bug for the engrossing speed.

In an interview at the movie’s premiere, Idris was asked how he’s adjusted to going back to normality.
“A traffic light? Oh my gosh. And another one? It’s so boring,” he answered.
“We trained for about four months before shooting and then pretty much in between shooting over the duration of filming, which took around 20 months.
“Every time you see us in the car, it’s us, even overtaking someone. We drove up to 180MPH.
“By the end, we felt as though we belonged. It was truly a dream come true.”
The actor is accustomed to pretty quick cars, too.
Damson Idris’ car collection
Given his success as an actor already, notably starring in Black Mirror and Snowfall, he’s accumulated some rather speedy cars.
Although it’s not known which of these he owns, the actor revealed that he has driven ‘GT turbos, M3s, Porsches, and then G-Wagens.’
He also rocked up to the F1 movie premiere in the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP edition – a custom coupe made for the film, based on the popular supercar series chosen by other Merc personalities.

The F1 movie will open on June 27, where Idris and Pitt will go toe-to-toe with Hamilton, Verstappen, Leclerc, Sainz, and their own inner demons.
