A man who has owned an EV for the last five years has explained why he’s given up and will be going back to gas for his next car.
With EVs being mainstream for several years now, we’ve seen plenty of folks make the switch from gas-powered cars to electric ones.
Advancements in tech, paired with better charging infrastructure in many places, mean that it’s easier than ever to make the change.
However, it seems that are some who have serious regrets about going all-electric and will be sticking to gas or diesel in the future.

An EV owner has shared why he’s going back to gas
There are plenty of folks who are delighted to have changed from gas vehicles to electric ones, one Tesla owner has even questioned why anyone would ever get an ICE car, while a recent study found nine out of 10 EV owners don’t plan on going back to an ICE car.
However, it’s certainly not the case that everyone is happy.

A British man who bought a Porsche Taycan was left with serious regrets after finding out his EV was ‘worthless’.
And over in Ireland, several EV owners have recently shared their thoughts on EV ownership, with one man saying he plans on going back to gas, and it’s all due to the availability of charging points in the country.
“There is a complete lack of charging infrastructure within Ireland,” the EV owner from County Dublin told The Irish Times.
“I have owned an electric car for five years now and will be switching back to petrol or diesel.”
He went on to say that ‘the entire EV scheme is doomed to failure in Ireland’ due to insufficient charging ports.
A fellow EV driver said they were unable to convert their front garden into a driveway and fit an EV charger as their property is a protected building.
Someone else said the ‘electric charging infrastructure is appalling’ in Ireland and that even when you find a charging station you’ll often be stuck waiting for someone else to finish adding hours on to your journey.
How is EV adoption going across the world?
Globally, electric vehicle sales are up in 2025.
In the first half of this year, worldwide sales hit 9.1 million units, which is a 28 percent increase on the same period last year.

However, not all countries are seeing the same rates of growth.
Over in Norway, almost all new cars sold – 97 percent – are electric; similarly, China is also seeing a surge in all-electric sales, with over 5.5 million sales in the first half of 2025 – a 32 percent jump.
But it’s a different story in the North American market.
The United States, Canada, and Mexico saw a rise of just three percent this year.
