When it was created in the 2000s, the Airbus A380’s interiors were very different from what was finally seen on the production aircraft.

The Airbus A380 has had a rough service life, but no one can dispute the space it provided inside and the level of luxury as you traveled in the more expensive cabins.

Back when the interior was designed in the 2000s, Airbus came up with something quite different from what production aircraft had.

Images of them make us wonder whether the original ideas would have been more popular than what we actually had.

How different were the concept Airbus A380’s interiors?

Design studio Priestmangoode was the company that came up with the original A380 interior.

Then-chairman of the company, Paul Priestman, has said in the past what the brief was from Airbus.

The company was told to design ‘the future of aviation’, and redefine what it was like to travel on an airliner.

Paul Priestman and his team had free rein from Airbus, and it featured large staircases, swivel seats, and beds with TVs.

The designs were so outlandish that they quickly earned the nickname of the ‘wow’ mockup.

Priestmangoode wanted to make the interior of the A380 a destination, and it even had a library and a bar.

But come the production jets, and things had been watered down slightly.

The final interior was not at the concept’s level

While it is still impressive, the actual interior of the A380 wasn’t quite the same.

Some of the wow factor was taken out, while certain airlines toned down the colors in the cabins.

The A380 showed a lot of promise when first introduced; however, its service life has been a rough ride.

The company elected to end production based on economics, as sales were not what Airbus had hoped for.

Airlines have also opted for smaller aircraft, such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A320, as they are more economical to run.

Some airlines have also retired the A380 altogether, such as British Airways.

For enthusiasts, however, the A380 has always held a special place in their hearts.

Perhaps things could have been a bit different had the original interior design not changed.
