Akon claims T-Pain bought a Bugatti Veyron to try and upstage him

Akon has claimed that T-Pain bought a Bugatti Veyron in an attempt to try and upstage him.

The Senegalese-American singer made the claim while appearing on the Bag Fuel Podcast.

It’s no secret that T-Pain is a fan of flashy supercars.

But in Akon’s view, buying a $1.7 million Bugatti was T-Pain’s way of proving himself.

If there’s one group of people prone to spending a ton of money on cars, it’d be celebrities.

And it’s across the board, too.

Athletes like LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal are known to indulge in a supercar, but they’re not the only ones.

Hollywood actors, including Zac Efron, Patrick Dempsey, and Robert Downey Jr, have also racked up several cars over their illustrious careers.

So it’s no surprise that the love of fast cars is also prevalent throughout the music industry, too.

One such case of this being the rapper T-Pain.

You may recall that he took delivery of a $2.8m Koenigsegg Regera while on a livestream, leaving his friend stunned.

From that incident alone, you could fairly assess that T-Pain doesn’t mind spending the big bucks.

But according to Akon, this spending spree is all an attempt to upstage him.

It was on the Bag Fuel Podcast that Akon made these claims.

“With Pain it was a little different because Pain had got to a certain level of his career where he was competing with me too,” the singer said.

“We would have real conversations. I’d be like, ‘Yeah, Pain. I don’t think you need to buy that car.’

“I noticed that every time I bought a car, Pain would come and try to outdo it. Then he pulled up on me in a Bugatti.

“At that time, the car was like 1.7 million [dollars]. Now you get a Bugatti for about three million. It’s like double the cost now, but at that time, even that was unheard of,” he said.

But if you just happen to have a pink Bugatti, it costs $3.5 million, and that’s before the battery needs changing,

“So I saw that car. I said, ‘Oooh,’ I said, ‘Pain, I don’t know.’ He said, ‘I’m s****ing on these n*****.’ I said, ‘Yeah, you are. You s****ing on me too, n****, I gotta give it to you.’ But he was s****ing on everybody,” he explained.

This isn’t the first time that Akon has discussed T-Pain in an interview.

He’d previously remarked that he thought the rapper would be ‘further along’ in his career.

T-Pain seemingly responded to these remarks on Twitter, although he didn’t mention Akon by name.

“The very [people] that held me back is tellin’ y’all how I could’ve been bigger,” he wrote.

“I’m not angry at all. I’ve grown. I’ve learned how to keep moving forward and not look back. Some ppl don’t, and that’s ok. They’ll get there at their pace.

“But I’m no longer gonna to allow my past to determine my future. I’m in control. See y’all on the brighter side. Love y’all,” he went on.

Why does competition have to come into it?

Can’t we all enjoy the fancy supercars and get along?
