The Alpine A290 Rallye is about to take its biggest step yet, as Alpine officially brings its first all-electric rally car into full competition.
After a handful of demonstration runs earlier this year, the compact EV is finally set to show what it can do against the clock.
Its debut will take place at the Rallye National de l’Indre on November 8–9, marking the launch of a new era for both Alpine and electric rallying.
While the latest edition of the A290 is certainly cool, the creation of a fresh single-make championship dedicated to it is arguably even more exciting.

The Alpine A290 Rallye will make its competitive debut
That championship is the Alpine A290 Rally Trophy, which kicks off with this historic first outing.
The inaugural edition will feature the first production Alpine A290 Rallye cars, giving both crews and teams a chance to push the car in competitive conditions.

The A290 Rallye is based on the existing A290 electricity city car, which is one of three models presently on the market, along with the two-seater A110 and the Porsche Taycan ‘killer’ A390.
The A290 itself is a variant of the popular Renault 5, which has a strange feature that is unapologetically French.
To raise the stakes, winners won’t just earn prize money.
They’ll also secure a coveted entry into one round of the French Rally Championship as an official Alpine A110 Rally driver.
Other strong finishers will be rewarded with free entry into the 2026 Trophy season, making this debut event a true career springboard.
From 2026, the Trophy expands into a full-fledged series contested over six rounds of the French Rally Championship, with sixteen competitors taking part.
Alongside the main Trophy, the Alpine A290 Regional Trophy will open the door to privateers competing in smaller rallies and hill climbs, with only the five best results counting toward their final score.
Plenty of prize money on the line
The rewards on offer are pretty enticing.
At the debut Rallye National de l’Indre, competitors will fight for €19,200 ($22,500) in prize packages, while from 2026 the main Trophy grows to a €236,000 ($277,000) purse.

The Regional Trophy adds a further €46,000 ($54,000) in rewards, combining performance bonuses with spare parts vouchers.
By combining modern EV technology, a professional racing structure, and serious prize money, the Alpine A290 Rally Trophy represents a bold new step in customer motorsport.
