Khalil Shakir is one of the true rising talents in the NFL but still has a relatively low-key daily drive – a 2021 Subaru.

The former Boise State wide receiver was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Shakir recently signed a new four-year, $60 million contract with the AFC East organisation.

But, he has no plans to get rid of his beloved – if slightly basic – car anytime soon.

Khalil Shakir: A star on the rise in the NFL

Khalil Shakir is very much making a name for himself in America’s biggest sport.

The 25-year-old wide receiver – who was only drafted into the NFL a few years ago – has been making a splash.

In 2024, Shakir was handed a tremendous amount of pressure when he was left as his team’s sole wide receiver.

Star player Stefon Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans, while Gabe Davis was out injured.

Despite being thrust into the number one role, Shakir thrived, catching 30 successive passes from star quarterback Josh Allen.

Shakir’s standout performances recently earned him a new four-year, $60 million contract with the Buffalo Bills.

But he’s keeping his feet on the ground and has no plans to go crazy on new cars.

Shakir staying true to his Subaru

At the press conference celebrating his new deal, Shakir was asked a very important question.

Does he plan to change his current car?

For context, Shakir drives an incredibly modest car for an NFL star – a 2021 Subaru.

Apparently, Shakir drives ‘a normal white Subaru with tinted windows.’

Shakir is very much able to laugh at himself, as he said: “I’ll put myself on blast a little bit, but I drive a Subaru.”

Fellow wide receiver colleague Curtis Samuel can be heard joking that Shakir can now afford to buy a 2024 Subaru.

Shakir’s humility stands in stark contrast to the traditional image of the modern athlete.

Most athletes are found driving the most luxurious, exotic and crazy cars in the world today.

We, for one, appreciate the Shakir’s Subaru selection – maybe he will add to his Subaru car collection?
