An American man recently went viral for a gas pump trick to fix the nozzle randomly clicking off at a gas station, but not everyone who saw it was impressed.
TikTok content creator Solo Martines Jr, AKA solomartinesjr6, shared the gas pump trick on his account, as they’re known to sometimes malfunction.
This relates to it randomly clicking off even when the gas tank is nowhere near full, with you usually able to refill a car or truck without holding the lever down.
While some were quite interested in Martines’s trick, others were quick to comment on it in a different light.

The video went viral quite quickly on TikTok and amassed over 330,000 views in a short space of time.
Martines has a truck and says it takes an age to fill it up with the full $90 worth of gas.
Usually, like many, he just has the gas lever fully depressed without holding it.
It will then click back off when the truck is full or nearly full.
@solomartinesjr6 👀 It takes forever to fill up $90 on this truck. Finally figured out how to keep the pump from tripping on this truck. You ever had this problem at the gas pump? #gaspump #houstontx ♬ original sound – solomartinesjr
Yet these can malfunction, and he has said the gas pump will sometimes click off even if the car isn’t close to being full.
In his TikTok video, Martines showed the pump doing exactly that.
However, he figured out how to prevent it from happening by simply turning the pump upside down.
For this to work, the spiral part of the pump must be outside of the fuel hole.
The clicking then stops, and Martines said it could be due to air inside the truck’s gas tank.
The nozzles on gas station pumps shut off due to pressure caused by the Venturi effect.
As the tank reaches capacity, the pressure changes tell the nozzle that it’s time to shut off.
While some found the trick impressive, others were not so quick to heap praise on Martines.

One said that Martines was ‘ignorant’, and that the reality is his tank was full and he is destroying the EVAP system and purge valve in the truck.
Another said to just pull the nozzle back a ‘smidge’ to ease the pressure in the tank.
Others said that they believed he was about to see his engine warning light come on.
Who knew that such a simple gas pump trick could cause so much debate?
