This Lincoln had an Aston Martin V12 engine and you’ve probably never heard of it

In 2002, Lincoln built a full-size luxury sedan, the Lincoln Continental Concept, with an Aston Martin V12 under the hood.

It had 414 horsepower, suicide doors, and full-size umbrellas.

The concept turned heads but never turned into a production car.

Now, more than 20 years later, the one and only working example is going under the hammer.

Lincoln’s secret concept car with an Aston Martin V12 is going under the hammer

Meet the Lincoln Continental Concept: a bold vision for the brand’s future at the turn of the millennium.

At the time, Lincoln’s line-up leaned heavily on tradition – think Town Cars, Navigators, and chrome for days.

Then came this: a striking, V12-powered concept that looked like nothing else in the showroom.

It was sleek, tech-forward, and quietly radical – a glimpse of what Lincoln could’ve become.

Under the hood sat a 6.0-liter V12 from Aston Martin. It made 414 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic.

The design followed suit.

It rolled on 22in wheels and featured powered, rear-hinged doors with flush handles.

Inside? A full-sized umbrella tucked into each door, analog gauges, silver-trimmed tan leather, and a rear console with climate controls, media toggles, and a pop-out laptop tray.

Only two prototypes were built. One was a static display – this one had the real deal under the hood.

It wasn’t street legal, but it was driveable. In theory.

Now, after more than two decades behind the curtain, it’s heading to Mecum’s Chicago auction on September 20.

For the right buyer, it’s a piece of alternate automotive history – in glorious, powered-door form.

The Lincoln Continental Concept never made it past prototype stage

For all its ambition, the Lincoln Continental Concept never made it past the prototype stage.

Lincoln – and by extension, Ford – decided not to move forward.

Maybe it was too expensive. Maybe it was too out there. Maybe the world just wasn’t ready for a Lincoln with 12 cylinders and full VIP lounge energy.

What’s wild is how close they came to changing the brand’s entire future.

If they’d built this, the Lincoln badge might’ve meant something completely different today.

Instead, it became a rare glimpse into the kind of bold thinking that was quietly happening behind the scenes at Lincoln.

And now, one lucky collector is going to own it.

Just don’t expect to daily it – this thing’s more sculpture than sedan.

But if you’ve got the garage space and a thing for rare unicorns, this might be the coolest Lincoln you’ll never legally drive.
