If you’ve always wanted to own a car collection but weren’t quite sure where to start, then this haul of 22 BMW M vehicles set to go under the hammer this month could be the answer.

The auction, dubbed ‘The Best of M Collection’ is packed with classics like a 1990 BMW M3 Sport Evolution and a 1975 BMW 2002 Turbo.

There’s also a bunch of more modern examples, including a 2023 BMW M4 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M and a 2023 BMW M4 CSL.

Basically, it’s an absolute treasure trove of BMW M vehicles and each one of them is up for grabs.

The 22-strong collection has been branded ‘The Best of M Collection’

BMW M – short for Motorsport – was initially created to build cars for BMW’s racing program.

However, in response to growing interest from customers for beefier, high-performance offerings, the carmaker introduced M-badged vehicles into its line-up.

The first to be released was the M1, unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1978.

And you’ll find one of them in this incredible collection, which is set to go under the hammer on 18 October.

The Best of M Collection, is packed with top-notch motors, but the jewel in the crown is definitely the 1980 M1

Just 399 road-going examples of the M1 were ever built, making the car as rare as it is gorgeous.

This one is finished in its factory white over black leather and cloth interior and benefits from a full mechanical and cosmetic restoration by Formula GT in Munich.

Aside from the M1, there’s also nine M3s, including a one-of-600 1990 Sport Evolution; and three M4s, including a one-of-1000 2023 BMW M4 CSL presented in an exclusive metallic shade of Frozen Brooklyn Grey over black Merino leather.

Other gems include a 1975 BMW 2002 Turbo, and a Phoenix Yellow 2002 BMW Z3 M Coupé.

The collection of BMW M vehicles won’t be going cheap

The Best of the M Collection heads to auction with RM Sotheby’s later this month and the cars available are offered with no reserve.

However, they’re certainly not expected to go cheap; the 1980 M1 has a valuation of between $600,000 and $700,000, while the gorgeously presented 2003 BMW Alpina Roadster V8 comes with an estimate of $350,000 – $445,000.

Down the other end of the scale, the 2002 BMW M3 Cabriolet and the 2007 BMW Z4 M Roadster are expected to each fetch between $60,000 and $80,000.
