Ford Falcon isn’t a name you hear much anymore.

It was the compact that quietly vanished once the Maverick came along.

But in 1970, Ford slipped out one last version with a monster under the hood.

And one of those cars has reappeared, untouched, with fewer than 3,000 miles on the clock.

The Ford Falcon that time forgot

The Falcon started life in 1960 as Ford’s cheap, no-frills compact.

But by 1970, it was gone, replaced by the Maverick

Then Ford brought it back for one last hurrah – a stripped-down Torino with a Falcon badge, bench seats, crank windows, and not much else.

Nothing special… until you checked under the hood.

Buyers could spec the 429-cubic-inch Cobra Jet V8, a 370hp brute that turned the humble Falcon into a muscle machine.

Even rarer was the Drag Pack option, which upgraded the motor into a 375hp Super Cobra Jet.

Only about 90 Falcons left the factory with it.

One of them still exists today – an orange coupe with the Drag Pack, a four-speed manual, and every original part intact.

It’s also one of only 52 built with that gearbox, making it even more exclusive.

And even better: its odometer shows just 2,800 miles.

For a car that most owners sped down drag strips until they blew up, that’s basically unheard of.

This survivor has been preserved inside the McCandless Collection and looks the part.

The paint shines, the interior hasn’t sagged, and the original window sticker is still with the car.

From showroom floor to auction block

This Falcon isn’t just sitting in a museum, though – it’s about to go under the hammer.

Richmond Auctions is listing it on October 24 as part of the Tony Townley Collection.

The auction opens at just $25 with no reserve.

That’s an outrageous starting point when unrestored Super Cobra Jets this rare usually fetch six figures.

Collectors will no doubt be circling.

Original window sticker still attached, odometer reading 2,800 miles, Drag Pack intact – it’s the kind of paperwork and provenance that makes bidders lose their minds.

And unlike a lot of big-ticket muscle auctions, this one’s guaranteed to sell.

No safety net, no minimum price, just a once-in-a-lifetime Ford ready for whoever’s holding the paddle when the gavel drops.
