A custom Bentley Mulsanne EWB once part of the British Royal Family and personally driven by Queen Elizabeth II was recently put up for auction.
We’re talking about a 10-year-old luxury sedan – a model that isn’t ultra-rare and belongs to a segment famous for rapid depreciation.
So the potential huge amount is 100 percent down the royal connection.
What’s interesting is that the main feature that clearly marked it as a royal car was actually removed ahead of the auction.
Queen Elizabeth II was a ‘petrolhead’, and she actually drove her cars
Queen Elizabeth was definitely a petrolhead, as the Brits would put it, and she actually drove her cars, too, which is unusual.
In fact, Elizabeth kept on driving her cars well through her 70s and 80s, only agreeing to stop later in life at 92 after doctors had (presumably more than once) asked her to.
Most of her vehicles, if not all, were obviously either English-made or from an English brand.

Among others, she used to own a Range Rover that, believe it or not, was on the exact assembly line and on the exact same day as Jeremy Clarkson’s nearly identical Range Rover, which was sold recently.
And she also owned this Bentley Mulsanne EWB.
As you can imagine, it was as from standard as you can get.

How much this Bentley could sell for
Broad Arrow Auctions‘ pre-sale estimates ranged between $460,000 and $520,000.
Well, it actually didn’t sell, in the end, presumably because it didn’t meet the reserve price.
The vehicle in question is a custom 2016 Bentley Mulsanne EWB – which stands for Extended Wheelbase – finished in Barnato Green paint, featuring a twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V8 engine producing around 530 horsepower.
It has approximately 6,000 miles (10,000 kilometers) on the odometer.
It was one of only two such customized sedans built for Queen Elizabeth II by Bentley’s Press and Special Vehicles Department, and it remained in use until 2019.
The interior was tailored specifically for the Queen, featuring leather upholstery with sheep’s wool carpets, and a special custom stand where her signature Launer London handbag could rest in place of a front central armrest.

The only catch is that, at the request of the British Royal Family, the Royal Coat of Arms embedded in the wood panels and the custom handbag tray were actually removed, and standard armrests were reinstalled.
Other ‘royal’ cars sold recently
The British Royal Family is more or less constantly selling older cars.
Not every car is historically significant, and some are just ‘workhorses’ that don’t necessarily need to end in a museum.
In recent times, the British Royal Family has sold dozens of cars.

In 2022, Princess Diana’s 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo once part of the collection sold for $850,000.
Another vehicle worth mentioning is Her Majesty’s 2006 Range Rover L322, sold in 2025 for $237,000.
Then again, not all royal families do this.
The Sultan of Brunei, for example, apparently never gets rid of anything.
