The Sultan of Brunei is known to have a love of the McLaren F1, but now that passion is set to be shared with the world as it heads to auction in Abu Dhabi.

Boasting some impressive exterior features, the supercar is expected to fetch a mighty price of $21 million when it hits the auction block.

With special signatures and an impressive history, it’s clear that this example is no ordinary McLaren F1.

In fact, thousands of dollars have been spent on maintenance to make this McLaren one of the very best.

The Sultan of Brunei’s McLaren F1 heading to auction

When it comes to owning super-fast and impressive cars, the Sultan of Brunei is ahead of the game.

The figure has a particular love for McLaren F1s.

But, forget every price tag you’ve seen before, as this F1 is expected to fetch over $21,000,000 in December.

And there’s a good reason for such a high price being attached to the vehicle.

The McLaren F1 is number 14 out of 64 ‘road-specification examples’ that were produced.

“Chassis number 014 was originally configured in the bright shade of Titanium Yellow over a black leather and Alcantara interior ahead of being delivered to the Brunei Royal Family,” stated the listing on RM Sotheby’s.

But, aside from the chassis number, the car also boasts some special signatures on the exterior shell, too, with Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton’s handwriting having both adorned the car at some point; however, Schumacher’s has sadly been hidden by paint.

After the car was received by the Brunei Royal Family, it was exported back to the UK, where it was purchased via the Director of McLaren before being shipped off to the US.

It was then snapped up by a well-versed F1 owner and subsequently bought by a long-term owner in 2006.

“The total for the refurbishment of chassis 014, which has been catalogued in an accompanying series of more than 450 photographs, exceeded some $500,000,” continued the listing.

After it was completed, the car was returned via presentation, back to the owner, where it displayed Ibis White livery and a High-Downforce Kit, amongst other modifications, in 2007.

With just 13,711 miles on the clock, the signatures and special features, it’s no wonder that the McLaren F1 is expected to fetch tens of thousands of dollars in the UAE.

The car even comes with the original Facom tool chest alongside two luggage items specific to the chassis number.

The Sultan of Brunei’s car collection

Aside from his beloved McLaren F1, the Sultan of Brunei has a very impressive collection of cars.

From McLaren to Ferrari and Bentley, the Sultan of Brunei owns just about every luxury car you could imagine.

In fact, experts even appraised his extravagant car collection that features an astonishing 2,391 vehicles.

And even though one of his old F1s is now up for auction, he still has a massive $300,000,000 worth of the supercars in his collection.
