Check out this amazing never-before-seen Audi hypercar concept

Audi has revealed a never-made, incredibly cool-looking concept hypercar dating back to 2010. 

Dubbed the Skorpion, the hypercar was intended to be Audi’s crown jewel. 

The carmaker worked on and developed the car from 2010 to 2013 before the whole project was quietly dropped.

The Audi Skorpion hypercar concept was hidden away for years

Audi has created some of the coolest concept cars, such as the Skysphere, which has one of the most interesting interiors we’ve ever seen, and the groundbreaking all-electric AI-RACE. 

Sadly, the poor old Skorpion didn’t make it as far as the racetrack before Audi decided to abandon it. 

However, rather than let it become lost to the sands of time, Audi decided to put the car on display at the August Horch Museum Zwickau – an automobile museum that is partly owned by the carmaker. 

The Skorpion’s design appears to take heavy inspiration from Audi’s Le Mans R18 racer – but was designed to be road-legal. 

According to the museum, its aerodynamics were inspired by the Audi DTM. 

“You can clearly see the particularly streamlined passenger cell, which is intended to ensure the most ideal airflow possible,” the museum said in a post on Instagram. 

“In addition, the aerodynamic concept adapts adaptively to the respective track situation with the lowest possible air resistance at top speed and maximum downforce when braking and cornering.”

A report from 2013 claims the car would have had 700hp

Although no technical details of the car were shared alongside the Skorpion, the car would be suitable to run with either a diesel, petrol, or hybrid engine and could ‘conceivably’ handle anything between 400 and 550 horsepower, according to the museum’s post. 

However, a report in Car and Driver from 2013, claimed that the Skorpion ‘should be capable of churning out more than 700 horsepower’ and that it would come with a hybrid engine taken ‘directly from the R18 e-tron Quattro’.

“It wouldn’t make sense to use anything but the R18’s racing engine in the Scorpion, [sic]” an unnamed Audi told the publication at the time. 

The report also claimed the car would be able to hit speed ‘exceeding 200mph’ (320km/h).
