Police in Australia’s Northern Territory have introduced a new Subaru WRX fleet to replace its ‘aging fleet’ of Kia Stingers and VW Passats.
The Northern Territory Police, Fire, and Emergency Services has received 13 new WRX patrol cars for its Traffic Police Unit.
The first of the purpose-built vehicles has already arrived in Darwin with more set to follow.

The first of the ‘high-powered’ cars will be on the streets in weeks
Of course, this isn’t the first force that has added some beefed-up motors to its fleet.
Dubai Police has a Mansory P720 and McLaren Artura within its elite supercar fleet.
While cops in California recently revealed it was introducing the first all-electric fleet in the US with the introduction of 20 Teslas.
Officials in Australia have said the new ‘high-powered’ vehicles will be out on the streets within ‘weeks’.
“I’m continuing to deliver on my common sense plan to improve community safety by ensuring that Police have the resources and support they need to do the job,” Eva Lawler, Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, said in a post on social media.
“Police have been provided with a new fleet of high-powered vehicles. The first of the new Subaru WRX patrol cars will be on the streets of Darwin within weeks before the remainder of the fleet of 13 are rolled out across the Territory.”
The Subaru WRX police vehicles have been fully customized
The Aussie WRX police vehicles are completely customized to handle the job and come fitted with emergency lighting, a dual battery system, a rifle mount with electronic release, automatic number plate recognition, advanced speed radar, and a light bar with a messaging board.
“Designed by Police themselves, this latest edition to the Force’s arsenal of resources is another example of Police and the Lawler Labor Government working hand in hand to lower crime,” said Brent Potter, Minister for Police.
“These vehicles have been designed to have everything an officer could want or need to do their job efficiently and safely.”
The WRX police cars can hit a top speed of almost 250km/h (155mph), compared to a standard WRX which can reach 215km/h (134mph).
So, it seems the police will have a very handy new tool in the fight against crime.
