Austrian Airlines A320 performs high-speed low pass like it’s at an Air Show

  • Check out the footage of this Austrian Airlines A320 performing a high-speed low pass
  • While you might expect it from a fighter jet, it’s not what you’d expect from a passenger plane
  • It manages a groundspeed of over 350 knots

Displays of aerial acrobatics are expected for some aircraft, but we didn’t expect a high-speed low pass from this Austrian Airlines A320.

With a ground speed of over 350 knots, the move is more reminiscent of a fighter jet.

And while the airport is infamous for having a difficult approach due to its surrounding terrain, the pilot navigated it with flair.

Where did the A320 perform the high-speed low pass?

Aircraft OE-LBO performed the high-speed low pass at Innsbruck Airport, Austria – specifically Runway 08.

The Austrian Airlines A320 was actually en route to Antalya – most likely taking lucky holidaygoers for a week or two in the sun.

However, its high-speed low pass went above and beyond what anyone on board or standing watch was expecting.

And it was all caught on camera and posted to YouTube by gigglflyniki.

The plane and trainspotting content creator focuses on vehicles in and around Austria.

And with over 976,000 views, the internet was, for once, pretty impressed.

“That was possibly the maximum allowed speed at that altitude,” read one comment.

“It is so crazy how all of the A320s avionics managed to keep the low pass smooth and steady,” said a second.

Meanwhile a third chimed in: “I love seeing civilian airliners doing air show-type stuff.”

And others agreed.

Other passenger-plane stunts

We have seen similar feats of flying before.

A Boeing 747 was captured on camera ‘saying goodbye’ during takeoff as the pilot performed a breathtaking ‘wing wave’.

Pilots usually wait until 2,000 feet to perform this stunt.

Similarly, a retiring Airbus A380 pilot performed a controversial wing-wave maneuver on his final flight with a plane full of passengers.

Flight LH453, traveling from LAX to Munich, pulled off the breathtaking maneuver just after takeoff.

It was pilot Christian Pokorski’s final flight after a 33-year career.

In another impressive feat, a Giant Boeing 777X took off nearly vertically in Dubai.

After gaining her BA Hons in French and English at the University of Nottingham, Amelia embarked on a vocational diploma from the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ). This led to numerous opportunities, from interning at Vogue to being on the small team that launched Women’s Health magazine in the UK, which was named the PPA Consumer magazine of the year for three years running. As Health, Beauty and Fitness editor, Amelia personally received a Johnson & Johnson Award and was shortlisted for both PPA and BSME titles. Since then, Amelia has created content for numerous titles and brands, including the Telegraph, 111 Skin, Waitrose, Red magazine, Stylist, and Elle, as well as being Head of Content at Vitality and Editor in Chief at INLondon magazine. “My superpower is translating technical jargon about the mechanical workings of a supercar into a relatable story you’ll want to share with your friends after you’ve read it.” After joining the SB Media family as a senior journalist in September of 2023, Amelia’s role has evolved to see her heading up the SEO output of the editorial team. From researching the most ‘Google-able’ key terms to producing evergreen content - it’s been a time of hard work, growth, and success for the editorial team and the Supercar Blondie website. “I like to think of myself as a ‘method journalist’. In other words: I live and breathe whatever I am writing about. When writing about fitness, I trained as a personal trainer, and as a beauty editor, I completed an ‘expert’ in scent diploma with the Fragrance Foundation. “During my tenure at Supercar Blondie, however, I did something I never thought possible: I passed my driving test at the age of 36. One day I’d love to train as a mechanic to better understand what happens under the hood, too. “My sweet spot is providing readers with a ‘takeaway’ (read: something new they didn’t know before) after reading every one of my stories. While I don’t claim to be an expert in the automotive world, I know the experts and bodies in the field to rely on to provide our readers with an informative and thought-provoking story every time they visit the site.”
