Porsche may force Audi to abandon its highly anticipated Concept C sports car, due to a battery supply crisis.

With a new CEO, Michael Leiters, change seems to be on the agenda at the company.

The company’s EV line-up may be at risk, with the Concept C reportedly being eyed up for termination – before it’s even reached production.

But what is behind this change of direction?

Here’s why the Concept C may be finished before it’s even begun production

There’s been a lot of hype about the Audi Concept C sports car, which was deemed an ‘electric love letter’.

With the car expected to be released in 2027, anticipation had been building for a while now.

But recent reports suggest that this project might not come to fruition.

With sales taking a dip, Leiters is taking a second look at Porsche’s operations.

This leaves the electric 718 program potentially on the chopping block, as it’s already been bogged down by delays and spiraling costs.

The program has already seen some rollback, after Porsche stepped back from making the line electric only.

Battery supply issues have also played a role in rollout issues, after Swedish cell supplier Northvolt went bankrupt.

In fact, the battery issue is particularly troublesome for Porsche.

Insiders told German publication Handelsblatt that finding a replacement for Northvolt would bring huge cost increases.

For now, only time will tell if the Concept C is confined to the dustbin of history.

Taking a look at what could have been

While we wait on news about the fate of the Concept C, let’s take a look at what has been revealed about this car so far.

Many likened the Concept C to the Audi TT, which is understandable.

The overall proportions honor the Audi TT, possibly one of the most recognizable sports cars ever built by the German brand.

In fact, a whole lot of things about this car would have been nods to the Audi brand – its name, for instance, is a tribute to the Auto Union Type C, one of the very first Audi vehicles.

In fact, back then, the brand was actually called Auto Union.

Will the Concept C be spared from any company culls? We’ll have to wait and see.
