Behind-the-scenes images show what a Boeing 787 Dreamliner looks like before it’s kitted out, and it certainly has a surreal, dream-like quality.
The Dreamliner entered service in 2011, with Boeing building more than 1,200 since then.
Depending on the specific model, the widebody airliner measures between 186 feet and 224 feet long and typically seats between 234 and 296 passengers.
And these rarely-seen photos help to reveal just how spacious that is.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner looks a bit like a spaceship without its fixtures and fittings
If you’re an aviation enthusiast, you might be familiar with how a 787 is built, and you might even know all about the secret cabin reserved for pilots and crew to get some sleep, but it’s unlikely you’ve ever seen one without its seats – until now.
The images, which were shared by Boeing, show what your average Dreamliner looks like before it gets its fixtures and fittings.

The photos have a surreal feel to them, with the inside of the plane looking a little bit like the inside of a spaceship from a science fiction movie.
The roomy, white cabin features a row of windows lined up below a vaulted ceiling, while the floor is covered in a dark grey carpet.
The planes are offered with several choices of configurations for airlines, with seat rows arranged in four to seven abreast in first, business, or premium economy, and eight or nine abreast in economy.
Airlines that order the planes are also permitted to include their own finishing touches, such as branded seating and other details.
However, commercial airlines aren’t the only customers for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The 787 can be ordered as a business jet
Although most 787 Dreamliners are destined to become passenger jets with major airlines, some of them end up as very high-end Boeing Business Jets (BBJ).
Unlike commercial Dreamliners, which tend to look pretty similar inside, BBJ 787’s have a lot more freedom when it comes to configurations and modifications.
Customers are able to choose how they want the plane to look, and can include a master bedroom, guest cabins, dining rooms, and lounges.
“The BBJ 787 joins the BBJ family, a full line of the most capable airplanes in the VIP market,” President of Boeing Business Jets Captain Steve Taylor said in 2022.

“The 787’s combination of phenomenal range, high cruise speed, low cabin altitude, big windows, and ultra-quiet cabin makes the 787 ideal for BBJ customers.”
To date, 15 of the BBJ 787s have been ordered, most by world governments that use them as VIP transportation for officials.
