Massachusetts man offered $10K by junkyard to give back his $300K Bentley Arnage after buying it from them for $5K and he takes big risk saying 'no'

When a Massachusetts man was offered $10,000 by a junkyard to give back his $300,000 Bentley Arnage, he had quite the decision on his hands.

You see, he’d originally bought it off them for $5,000.

So if he’d accepted the $10,000, he’d have made an easy profit.

He decided to take a big risk and said ‘No’. But why?

Rich Rebuilds is a YouTuber who constantly has a project in the works.

Whether he’s taking on a McLaren 720S or an Audi S8, he’s always taking a chance on cars, hoping to reap the rewards of the repair.

Just how good is he? Well, he managed to fix one BMW in a mere 30 minutes – after it’d been written off by a dealership following a 13-hour repair job.

This time around, Rich had a Bentley Arnage on his hands.

And not only that but he had a big decision to make.

This junkyard wanted to buy back the Bentley Arnage – he said no

Rich had quite the bargain on his hands when he secured a Bentley Arnage for $5,000 from a junkyard.

This car was worth around $300,000, but he’d gotten cheap on account of a suspected blown head gasket.

But barely two days after the car had been sold to him, the junkyard got back in touch.

“They called and they asked for the car back. And not only did they ask for the car back, they also offered doubled what I paid. I paid five [thousand], they offered 10 [thousand],” Rich explained.

“Then it got me thinking, maybe they know something that I don’t. Because when I bought this thing, the goal was simple. To fix it as cheaply as humanly possible.”

This would make a lot of people fret, or question their own judgement.

But Rich wasn’t deterred.

“I turned them down because if I can get this Bentley running, it’s worth a lot more than $10,000,” Rich explained.

“But if they’re right, I just walked away from the easiest $5,000.

“So, today we’re going to find out if saying no to that offer was a really smart decision or a really expensive one.”

Could this car be fixed?

Now that he’d taken a chance, it was time for Rich to hone his skills and bring the car back into working order.

First, he ran some tests which confirmed that a head gasket hadn’t actually been blown.

From there, he worked to figure out what the cause of the damage was.

Draining the oil brought up no metal shavings, but did reek of fuel, indicating the engine was flooding.

He went ahead and replaced all eight spark plugs using an endoscope scanner tool.

Then he tested out the twin-turbo system for vacuum leaks, after which he confirmed that the lines and hoses were intact.

Draining the gas tank removed the old fuel, which resembled apple juice at this point.

Adding fresh fuel and resetting the transmission error codes with a diagnostic tool were the final steps towards a solution.

The engine idled up beautifully, with no misfires, no smoke from the exhaust, and best of all, no ‘Check Engine’ lights on the dashboard.

He sent it off to a local body shop to have the damaged fender and peeling paint seen to.

In addition to that, he installed $1,100 22×9 wheels with custom Bentley center caps and $500 tires.

All in all, he’d spent around $8,000 to add this car to his collection.
