In a brilliant publicity move that ended in a great cause, this Brazilian billionaire once buried his beloved Bentley Continental so he could have it in heaven.
We’ve all had that one car that we simply couldn’t let go of.
Whether it’s the first car that brought you to tears as the scrapman wheeled it away, or that prime sports car that you simply couldn’t justify having around anymore, sometimes we have to let our machines go.
But not Count Chiquinho Scarpa, a Brazilian billionaire, who once won an Oscar for burying his half-a-million dollar Bentley.

Brazilian billionaire pledges to bury his Bentley to cruise into the afterlife
Cars are meant to be on the road, right?
Well, once they’ve proved their worth and lived their life, some people have decided that the scrapyard is too harsh a send-off and have preserved their legacy by adding them to the dirt that we drive on.
Some have even been buried to serve as time capsules.
However, Brazilian billionaire Count Chiquinho Scarpa once dug a grave for his Bentley Continental Flying Spur (worth half a mil), and announced a funeral for the car that he wanted to drive to heaven in.

Taking to a public Facebook post back in 2013 when the platform was at its peak, the Count posted pictures of the grave and invited the press and media down to the public send-off.
The grave, hand-dug by the Count himself, was on display for all to see.
But when he rolled the Bentley Continental down the ramp, there was a sudden change of events.
But it all turned out to be a stunt for a positive cause… and it worked
As an organ recipient himself, the Count used the opportune pause in the funeral ceremony to respond to social media backlash that he had faced.
Many comments said that this was a waste and the car should fulfill its circle of life by being stripped for parts instead of being buried.
In his speech, he argued, “Why are people bothered about the car not being a donor when people are buried like this?”
It was, in fact, a publicity stunt to urge people to become organ donors.
And it worked. According to reports, organ donations rose 30 percent in that year in Brazil.

The Bentley Continental Flying Spur was never buried, and the grave was filled back in, but only after the Count’s mission had been a success.
