A busy billionaire docked a $150,000,000 superyacht in Barcelona and went on a spending spree that was so ludicrous, the mayor worried he was playing ‘real-life Monopoly’.

A 280-foot superyacht worth $150 million was recently spotted anchored off the coast of Barcelona, drawing attention from locals and visitors alike.

Anchored just metres from the Playa de la Musclera beach in the quiet town of Arenys de Mar, it was clear this visit was no casual seaside break.

The yacht belongs to a mysterious businessman with a net worth of around $28.5 billion, who had dramatic and slightly nefarious plans for the small seaside town.

Who is the billionaire owner of the superyacht?

The superyacht, Pacific, is owned by a billionaire named Leonid Mikhelson.

Pacific was built by the German shipyard Lürssen and designed by naval architect Germán Frers, with interiors by Bannenberg & Rowell.

The vessel combines stealth, luxury, and engineering precision and was delivered in 2010, it also became the route for the billionaire to access Sant Vicenç de Montalt.

Its metallic hull shifts between silver and pale blue depending on the light, often confusing beachgoers who mistake it for a military vessel, which could show why it drew so much attention.

For 10 days, the yacht stayed anchored along the Spanish coast, a region famous for its hillside villas and chocolate box charm – locals flocked to take photos, unaware this visit was just the start of a much bigger story.

The Billionaire treated life like a ‘real-life Monopoly’

Soon after docking, Mikhelson’s team began touring nearby towns, meeting with officials, and inquiring about everything from beach clubs to luxury villas.

The mayor of Sant Vicenç de Montalt described it best:

“They arrived as if they were playing Monopoly, buying everything.”

His representatives even tried to put down deposits on beachfront establishments before being reminded that Spanish coastal properties require government tenders.

They also explored a castle-style hotel in Castell de l’Oliver and scouted plots in the exclusive Supermaresme community, where lots start at around $2.5 million.

For a billionaire whose yacht can cross oceans with ease, the Spanish coast may have been just another square on the board – but one that made locals realize how global wealth can reshape even the quietest corners of Europe.
